Rear Window

As photographer Jefferies is stuck in a wheel chair, all he has to keep himself occupied is his window. He continues to look out and spy on his neighbors as he tries to decide what he should be doing next with the rest of his life. Out of bordom Jefferies has convinced himself and those around him that his neighbor has murdered his wife. With the help of his girlfriend, Lisa Freemont, and nurse, Stella, they discover his fantasy is actually reality. Down to the wire they are able to get the police involved just in time to capture the murderer before he's able to kill Jefferies and escape.

The fact that Hitchcock can pull off a movie of this kind is no surprise but still fascinating none the less. To be filming from almost the same angle, a window, for an entire film and keeping the audience continuously engaged is something some directors may find difficult but Hitchcock has done with ease. Almost all the actors are doing their parts from such a long distance and even though you can't hear most of what they're saying, they're going through all the motions as if the camera is right there in front of them.

Jurassic Park

John Hammond thinks he's found the next big thing in technology and has created a island just to show off his new number one attraction, Dinosaurs. Dr. Alan Grant and Dr. Ellie Sattler are flown to the island to give their approval after one of the staff members gets killed. Once there everyone is amazed at what Hammond has accomplished but see its downfalls. When Grant, Dr. Ian Malcolm, Hammond's grandkids, and Donald Gennaro get stuck in the middle of a tropical storm and the power goes down, the island seems to flip. The dinosaurs take advantage of the situation and began to take over by chasing those who remain on the island. After getting the power back up, the remaining survivors were able to escape and leave behind what they can only hope to be a distant memory.

Spielberg really did a good job with all the technology he used to create a world where dinosaurs could exist and is actually believable. All the characters worked well together and the plot moved forward without anything seeming too far fetched. The lighting and score kept you enthralled from begging to end, and like his other films, many scenes and lines have become iconic in the film scene.

The Princess Bride

What's full of action, romance, and comedy that keeps you engaged till the end? The Princess Bride. While a boy is staying home sick his Grandfather comes over to read to him so he'll feel better. the story begins where Buttercup has to say goodbye to her new found love and farm-boy Westley as he goes off to make some money to be able marry her with respect and dignity when he's killed by The Dread Pirate Roberts. A few years later Buttercup had gotten engaged to Prince Humperdink, when she's kidnapped by Vizzini, Fezzik, and Inigo, to start a war. After being followed and defeated individually by The Dread Pirate Roberts, Buttercup's kidnappers were gone, and she discovered that Westley wasn't dead but the pirate all along. When Humperdink caught up with them he took Buttercup and sent Westley to be killed. Fezzik and Inigo find Westley mostly dead, but he's survived due to True Love. He then sets off to stop the wedding, and save Buttercup.

This thrilling story has just enough comedy, love, and sword fights to satisfy anyone's need for a good movie. The characters development throughout the film will capture anyone's interest and keep you guessing what will happen next to the very end will all the sudden and nearly dead moments. Another very creative thing Reiner does is break up the tention and keep the atmosphere light. Mostly he does this by having the characters do something funny or go back to the "real world" with the sick Grandkid and his Grandfather.

Jaws

Jaws is about a small summer town called Amity that has found itself plagued with a shark problem just in time for the fourth of July. This being their peak season most are trying to overlook what is happening and the only one who seems to have his head on straight is their new Sheriff named Brody. Being from New York, Brody isn't used to dealing with ocean situations such as this but alerts the proper outside sources to try and to convince the public they should be closing the beaches. With the help of a scientist called Hooper, and fisherman as well as local, Quint, they close the beaches and go right out into the middle of the battle ground to find and eventually kill the unusually large great white shark that has been killing and terrorizing the citizens.

This being Spielberg's first big budget film, it's where we first get to see how his films change how movie goes see movies. Most of the film is done in tight shots and creative zooms, the soundtrack has set the tone for all horror movies to follow it with the now historic "dun-uh dun-uh," and even for the fact that you don't see the shark for the first half of the film he pulled it off and was called a genius. Jaws will always be called a classic and couldn't be a better way for Spielberg to enter the public eye.

Tip #2

How to distract yourself.

Because we are in a new technology age we have the world at our fingertips. It really couldn’t be easier to find a distraction. My big distraction is Facebook. No matter what needs to be done or what time it is, as soon as facebook is on my screen I’m gone. It doesn’t help that I have the app on my phone and iPod touch. Anywhere I go I have access to facebook. Talk about a time waster. You can update your status, read over your own profile, check up on your friends or stalk some of your friend’s friends (but I prefer to call it being a detective). hehe

-extreame amount of time loss

-finding something you didn’t want to know

-looking up an ex and found they’ve gotten hotter or married before you

-stalking a new crush but then end up commenting on EVERYTHING they have posted on their profile**

Tip #1

NEVER do any kind of work until you absolutely have to.

At the beginning of every semester most classes will assign an final in the form of a project &/or paper. The main key here is to put it into the back of your mind until maybe a week before it’s due. Then put a little thought into it, maybe even plan to sit down and start, but then just don’t. Wait till the day or even night before you’re supposed to turn it in. along with the other 3 or 4 projects you’ve decided to put off. hehe

-wanting to die

-buying a paper online

-using an old paper that you’ve tweaked for the subject

-staying up all night so you over sleep the next morning and miss your deadline anyway.**

PROCRASTINATION

Alrighty...well I’m new to this whole blogging thing. I really feel like I don't have anything interesting to say but its a project so it needs to be done. Anyway after lots of thought about a topic for this whole thing I've come up with things like Harry Potter, Doctor Who, Twilight ect. Just topics I know a lot about, so in the end I've decided on procrastination. Its something that I’m always struggling to keep in check but it just seems to continue to be a big problem in my life. So that means I’m good at it. And thus I need to share my techniques with the world. hehehe
